The Atlanta Falcons take the long trip to the west coast this weekend and will end up at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California where they’ll take on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, November 8. Atlanta will be trying to rebound from their week-eight 23-20 overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the 49ers will be attempting to do the same after falling 27-6 in St. Louis to the Rams last week. The Falcons head into the game with a 6-2 record which is good enough for second place in the NFC South while the 49ers are 2-6 on the year and sit in the basement of the NFC West.

Quarterback Matt Ryan went 37 for 45 in passing with two touchdown passes and gained 397 yards. Wide receiver Julio Jones caught a dozen of Ryan’s passes for 162 yards. It looks like they have an easy game on paper since San Francisco has dropped six of their past seven outings, but they can’t just show up and expect to leave town with a win.

Atlanta is averaging 414.8 yards each game, which is ranked fourth best in the league. Their passing attack has been effective with each reception averaging 9.1, which is a compliment to the talents of the 26-year-old Jones. The 49ers’ secondary is mediocre at best and Jones could exploit it since he’s hit the 100-yard barrier four times so far this season. He’s also leading the team with 730 yards. The Falcon’s are also pretty good on the ground as they average a decent 4.3 yards for each rush. Devonta Freeman leads the way in this department with his nine touchdowns and 621 yards. The Falcons are 5-5 against the spread and 6-4 straight up in their past 10 encounters on the road.
The 49ers had a brutal time of it last week in St. Louis and were dominated 388-189 in total yards as Tavon Austin and Todd Gurley had their way with them. However, the 49ers were missing Carlos Hyde due to a foot injury and Reggie Bush hurt his knee early on and had to leave the game. In addition, quarterback Colin Kaepernick passed for just 162 yards with a completion percentage of 48.8 per cent. He was sacked on three occasions and didn’t manage a touchdown pass. San Francisco has now gone two games without a touchdown.

Kaepernick will need to do better at home this week if the 49ers hope to upset the Falcons. He’s had a tough time recently and has been credited with a touchdown pass in just three of the club’s eight games. on the bright side, he’s gone four consecutive contests without turning the ball over. Defensively, NaVorro Bowman will need a good game if San Francisco hopes to derail the Falcons’ offense. Bowman leads his team with 16 assists and 53 tackles and also has a sack in his five appearances. The 49ers have been average at home at best over their past 10 outings as they’ve gone 3-7 against the spread and 5-5 straight up. It’s unlikely they’ll improve on that record this weekend.
