The New England Patriots will try to halt their two-game losing skid when they head down to Texas this Sunday, December 13 to take on the Houston Texans at the NRG Stadium. The Patriots dropped their second straight game last week when they were downed 35-28 by the Philadelphia Eagles. The defending Super Bowl champions are still in control of the AFC East Division though at 10-2. The Texans own a 6-6 record and are tied with the Indianapolis Colts at the top of the AFC South. They were beaten 30-21 by the Buffalo Bills in their last outing on the weekend.

New England has lost their past two games after opening the season at 10-2 and has now been beaten twice in a row for the first time in the past three seasons. They’ll be hoping to bounce back in Houston and to do so they’ll need a better game out of quarterback Tom Brady. The future hall of famer was picked off twice against the Eagles and it was the first time he’s been intercepted twice in the same game since beating Seattle in the Super Bowl. Philadelphia’s special teams and defense kept the Patriots offense under control and made them pay for their mistakes by burning them for three touchdowns.

New England has played well against the Texans lately though as they’ve beaten them five times in their last six meetings. They’ve also covered the spread in four of those games, but are 2-3 against the spread away from home this season. New England needs to halt their mini losing streak before it extends to three games since they don’t want to end the season and enter the playoffs on a losing note.
The Texans’ defeat at the hand of the Bills on the weekend put an end to their four-game winning streak. Houston had problems with the Bills’ quarterback Tyrod Taylor as the tossed three touchdown passes and 211 yards. Houston will be hoping to get a big game out of DeAndre Hopkins as he wasn’t at his best against Buffalo. Hopkins scored a touchdown, but gained just 88 yards on five receptions. He’s been averaging 97.4 yards in the air so far this season and could return to form against the Patriots.

Quarterback Brian Hoyer will have to throw a few more passes Hopkins’ way in this game. Hoyer didn’t really target Hopkins too often on Sunday and didn’t toss anything to him at all during the third quarter. Hopkins has 10 passing touchdowns this season with 10, which is a franchise record, and Hoyer will need to get him more involved. Houston’s defense will also need to be better as the Texans conceded 187 yards on the ground against the Bills. Prior to week 13 the Texans didn’t allow 100 rushing yards against in their previous four outings. Houston enters the game with a 4-2 record against the spread at home this year.
